Cognition in the wild
Last week I had my very first presentation as a PhD student at an international conference. It was held at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. For those who are interested see http://www.aap-conferences.org.au/. The conference covered all fields in philosophy, from continental to analytic and from epistemology to applied ethics. There were over 300 talks and I was the only one talking about philosophy of technology, which sort of gave me the feeling that philosophy of technology is a rather marginalized field in philosophy. Well, anyway, the conference was interesting and I was introduced to the philosophy scene in Australia and Sydney. And, more importantly, I got some good ideas for my thesis. I’m thinking about doing some empirical stuff as well, although I don’t know how exactly. I will probably do some cognitive ethnography, cognition in the wild, and of course the Land of Oz is the best place to observe wild cognizers ;) If interested in my work see: http://mq.academia.edu/RichardHeersmink
