Talking life over a flat beer (the downside of English influence)

How did we end up talking life over a pint in this hideous looking pub in George St.? It started with an idea. ‘Let’s go see the new Leonardo DiCaprio tonight’, Richard said to me Saturday. Well, he didn’t say that literally since he is a guy and very into human mind matters, of course, so it was more like: I have to see this new movie called Inception, it’s about human consciousness or awareness and manipulating the mind. And then added some DiCaprio, because he knows what floats my boat ever since Titanic.

So, off we went to this larger than life cinema in the city center, to be captivated by this incredible movie which inspired us to reflect on some more than the irresistible banana bread at Gloria Jean’s and where to put our awesome new bar stools (thought I’d better add some less bombastic details into this blog, to put things in perspective a little. Imagine you thinking us philosophizing and full of self-importance all the time… we DO take a break you know!)

Anyway, as I mentioned Inception gave us a lot to talk about. ‘Having ideas, what to do with them, act on them or not, and when and why, being architect of your life (to a certain level) by making choices… you get the picture. Of course in our current life, the idea of Richard applying to this PhD and seeing that idea developing into a U-turn in our lives, is something we can go on about forever. And we would have, if it wasn’t for the limited amount of tasteless amber fluid we can take in.

Wise choice. Leaving the charming pub (sure will miss that lovely carpet, dodgy wallpaper and big ass tv’s showing soccer games), go home and dream about a Ghost in the Machine and Leo…*

* That would be resp. Richard and myself in that order, for the ones that wonder (my husband is very grateful to me for pointing that out.)

  1. You should try a little "de helaasheid der dingen" to get some perspective :D Or "Yo! tambien" if you are in less belgian and more spanish mood :D

  2. Anything European will suit my mood;) Can you send copies of both (only 25 euro's) and while you're at it: some fine chocolate would be nice to complement the belgian mood. And add to a perfect reading setting.

Cheers! Marije (and again Richard is glad I am pointing that out, he wouldn't want you to think of him as a Leonardo & chocolate loving mate)
