Fast moving moneymaker

Freelance writing in Dutch when you are Down Under: not particularly spot-on. What to do? Job hunting. Goodwill is a start, no? But nobody is calling. Why? Is it the picture? Okay, the dull scarf and suburb fence on the background will probably not make you think of me as the most interesting and creative person on this planet, but it’s the only one that could be uploaded to my resume.

Now before you think my computer skills are not all that: I let my husband do it. This does not mean I’m not a very independent and pragmatic worker! Because I am!

As a bonus, you will benefit from my excellent writing and communication skills. In Dutch, yes, you remembered. And last but not least: I can tell you some pretty exciting stories about living below sea level and skating on natural ice (not that I have a great talent for that – now don’t jump to conclusions about me being not the sporty type! I’m also an outstanding team player, in case you were wondering.)

And how about some interesting facts about the position of women in our country. We Dutch ladies manage to move around with three children, two bulking grocery bags and a dog, all attached to our bike some way or another. Facing headwind fearlessly. Talking about girl power! All this biking takes some of our time, so 75 percent of Dutch women is working part time.

But I’ll be happy to make an exception. Just for you, my future employer. (Luckily I don’t have a bike; or a dog; three children then? Goodness, no. Bulking grocery bags, yes, but I promise they will not interfere during working hours.)
