Overheard in the train

Girl: You don't pronounce the L in salmon, but you pronounce it in salmonella.
Girl next to her: What's salmonella? A female salmon?

Girl: Hey, how come Greg went home early today?
Guy: he had a sore wrist.
Girl: Oh right, he must be suffering that CSI condition.
Guy: You mean RSI..?

They are known as Sydney's 'Oh My God!' girls... and I could write a book about them. But I'm writing a book about my family history (long term project, yup), so maybe later.

Back to the girls: you spot them in the wild and on the tv-show Beauty and the Geek. Obviously it wasn't a problem to find suitable girls for the job, but where to find geeks? And not just geeks, but the real smart ones? Of course! At the Faculty of Science at MacQuarie University!

And so it happened, that my bestie Oldooz bumped into the 'B and the G' crew at work. With her charming Iranian accent, she asked the blokes what they were doing there. Of course they were in for a laugh and told her: we are looking for a geek! Oldooz suspected she was lost in translation again and decided it was time for lunch.

Luckily you have friends to clear things up if necessary, so who of us could explain to her what those dudes where doing while 'looking for a Greek in our department!'

Noooo, they didn't ask her to audition for 'Beauty', thank you very much. Of course she could, but she knows words like salmonella and RSI (I think...) and she's a PhD candidate in Computing. So too bad she's a girl, otherwise the happy crew had totally found her: not a Greek, but a lovely smart and oh so funny Iranian!

ممنون- شادباش (Salamati! or as we say: cheers!)
