Christmas time

A quick message today, because even for the lucky ones who are invited for Christmas dinner (us) these are busy days.

Tomorrow night, a BYO (bring your own) Christmas Eve at Nora's and I'm turning to Jamie and Nigella for some serious cooking inspiration. Glazed ham in Coca Cola? Hmm, next one. Sweet potato mix? Sounding better. Chocolate pistachio fudge or Chocolate Brandy Mixed nuts truffles with biscotti and Vin Santo?

Pff. Okay, a present for the host. Luckily we have Note to Self around the corner, let's take a look on their website to get in the mood. Hey, a blog too, and there I find the recipe of the homemade pesto I always make. No secret family recipe, obviously.

Best of all, I needed someone to point out to me 'Sweetness the Patisserie' at Oxford Street. I passed it a hundred times on my way to the post office or Vinnies, the store for poor people, think Salvation Army. And before you wrinkle your nose: at the one in Paddington - posh neighbourhood - I found a pair of Prada sandals for 20 dollars last week. We don't do Christmas presents in the Heersmink Home, but for this one I made an exception. A girl has to treat herself once in a while. Happy days! Despite of the recipe-stress.

But thanks to Note to Self that is solved, too. Forget Jamie's complicated truffles, I'm going for
Gina’s rose flavoured marshmallows, wonderfully served with a glass of sparkling Lindauer fraise. Sounds sparkly and x-massy enough for me, and all it takes is a trip to Oxford St. On my new pretty sandals, the sun on my hair. First Christmas in Australia isn't all that bad.
Merry times, you'all!
